Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) is a condition similar to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in humans. Prevalent in Corgis, DM also affects larger breed dogs like German Shepherds, Boxers and Labrador Retrievers. Advances in research have pinpointed the mutated genes that cause DM. We use Embark Dog DNA testing. Embark is a research partner with Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dogs with DM have two copies of the mutated gene SOD1 which means they are at risk for developing DM

All our breeding stock (Pembroke Welsh Corgis) are OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) tested for hips and elbows, and are CERF(Canine Eye Registration Foundation) certified when age appropriate. Ethical and responsible breeding starts with knowing the health of your dogs and what you’re passing onto the next generation. We believe in health testing the puppy parents for healthier puppies and preserving this incredible breed. All our puppies are health tested \ screened before going to their forever homes. Full registration papers depends on the experience and goals of the prospective owner, and the results from genetic screening. Disease prevention through careful breed selection and management is important us as we strive to produce healthy, happy Pembroke Welsh Corgis.
